Valentines Dress in High Key...

...When snow forced me to miss six days of work, I decided to turn the racquet ball court into a studio and experiment with high key lighting.

Being snowed in and not having to work for a total of 10 days in the past two weeks gave me a chance to play with some high key lighting. The cornered walls were each lit by a 580EXII flash at 1/2 power and triggered by pocket wizards, shot with a Canon 5DmkII on manual with the EF 16-35mm f2.8L lens. I purposefully overexposed in post-processing (Aperture 2) which added some noise because I wanted to blow the background and floor out as much as possible. Not so easy with only two flashes as the recycle time was irritating and the flashes could have been better positioned. I am sure that if I had Photoshop, I could do more filters and other effects to make these pop... but I was still happy with the experiment.

This is the kind of photography I would love to do as a career.
Big thanks to the willing model!

DC Snowpocalypse II...

The big 30" snow storm to hit DC on February 5th and 6th gave us a chance to play...

All shot with the 5DmkII on Manual with the 70-200 f2.8L IS. Weatherproofing worked!
